Serving the heart of California since 1892

Madera is my kind of place

I moved to Madera in 1991, when the population was about 41,000. It has grown quite a lot since that year. My husband and I have been happy living in this beautiful county, with folks who care about agriculture, about the community, and about each other.

We were living in Fresno when we decided to build a house in Madera. We originally looked at property in the Ranchos, which we thought would be a great place to live. The available lots were about 2 acres, and the prices were not bad.

We found a nice piece there we really liked, and decided to place a bid on it. The bid was accepted, but before we made the deal, the seller found out Valley Children’s Hospital would be coming in to that area. Also, there was talk about a university coming into Madera County. So, the seller probably thought the value of the lot would soon increase and took the land off the market. We didn’t get that nice lot. This happened to us twice.
