Every time I go biking or walking around my area in Bass Lake, I have to live through the decay of each street, of what used to be a place much like Oakhurst; a hub for people to live at. My hands itch from vibrations, not from allergies; the roads are in almost complete ruin. The original 1940s infrastructure is slowly wasting away into oblivion. These old houses that people remember are either becoming a “Jenga” style of rebuilding, or just wasting away. So many people left this area, that, now we have common problems that people cannot fix with force anymore.
I love to enjoy a walk or a bike ride, to help keep my mind off things and focus on other thoughts. But every time I walk these roads, I see how much they look like exploded watermelons. My poor father had to patch the road right outside our house because a semi truck attempted to drive down.
You might be asking, “Why can’t the County take care of it?” I’ll tell you that they haven’t.
