In reference to “Creating America, Madera and MUSD” (Oct. 10, 2026 edition of The Madera Tribune), Bill Coate implies that the 1965 vote to create MUSD was unfair. Recent interviews with former elected and appointed officials (see Neighbors: Oral History from Madera, California) outline a power struggle between local farmers and the community at large, as is true today, tainted with racism.
Unfortunately, the venomous taint has not totally disappeared.
