Hazardous materials warning in foothills

A chemical was found that caused eye and breathing irritation, forcing a Shelter-In-Place warning in Oakhurst.

This was deemed a hazardous materials incident Tuesday. Road 426 was closed for a few hours while California American Water was trying to determine the specific chemicals involved. The road was closed in the 51000 block for a half-mile in each direction.

By 4 p.m., all road closures and shelters in place were lifted. Yosemite Unified School District and Bass Lake Unified bus stops were also affected by the shelter in place, and alternate arrangements were made.
