EAST PEORIA, IL — Illinois Central College student Regan Fringer of Madera, placed second in swine judging at the 2021 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, according to the ICC public relations office.
The daughter of Art and Laurie Fringer of Madera is the granddaughter of Tim and Lorraine Fringer and Jerry and the late Phyllis Waag, all of Madera. She has two sisters, Mikaela and Alexis Fringer.
She is a sophomore at Illinois Central College.
“I am beyond grateful for my time at ICC,” said Regan. “This year has been difficult for everyone during times of COVID-19.”
Illinois Central College is a two-year community college with campuses in East Peoria, Peoria, and Pekin, Illinois providing education to prepare students to enter the workforce or to transfer to a four-year college or university, according to its website.
Fringer placed second in Swine Judging at the 2021 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, held March 29.
“Livestock judging has always been a passion of mine,” said Fringer. “It’s been a constant fight for my team to get approval for travel. So, to get the opportunity to compete at only one of the many contests available and succeed at a level this high was a genuine surprise.”
Fringer plans to graduate from ICC in May with an associate of arts degree studying agriculture, she said. She then intends to transfer to a university to continue both her education and livestock judging career.
“Regan has always set high goals and expectations of herself,” said her mother, Laurie. “Her drive and determination have always been self-motivated. This past year has put additional stress on her collegiate success. She has a natural ability to overcome obstacles. We are so proud of her.”
