How do I Submit a News Tip?

Something happening in Madera that the community should know about? Our newsroom wants to hear it.

This page explains how to send us a news tip, what to include so we can act on it quickly, and — just as importantly — what happens after it reaches us. Use the form below; they make sure your submission reaches the newsroom instead of getting lost in someone’s inbox.

News Tip

A news tip is a piece of information about something happening in the community that may be newsworthy — an event, a development, a problem, a person worth knowing about. You don’t need to be a writer, and you don’t need the whole story. You just need to point us toward it.

Need to stay anonymous? Please call — don’t use the form. Online submissions on this site are logged and traceable — your address and device leave a record — so the form cannot truly protect your identity. If you need to remain anonymous, phone the newsroom at +1 (559) 674-2424 instead. Anonymous information requires independent corroboration before we can publish anything based on it, and we cannot confirm receipt of, or follow up on, an anonymous tip. If your tip isn’t sensitive, the form below is the fastest way to reach us.

What happens next: Tips are reviewed by our editorial staff and followed up in the order our reporting allows. A tip is a starting point, not a guarantee of a story.

How Coverage Decisions Are Made

This part matters, so we’ll say it plainly:

Submitting a news tip does not guarantee coverage. Our editors decide what to report based on news value and what serves the community.

Advertising with the Tribune does not influence editorial decisions. Buying an ad does not buy a news story, and choosing not to advertise never costs anyone fair coverage.

Editorial and advertising are separate departments with separate functions. The newsroom makes news decisions. The business side makes business decisions. They do not make each other’s.

We hold this line because it’s the only way our reporting is worth anything to you as a reader.

What We Cannot Promise

  • That we will cover any particular tip — submission is not a guarantee of a story
  • Confirmation of receipt for anonymous tips

We will always do our honest best with what you send us.
