The Liberty Hawks girls volleyball team was awarded a No. 3 seed in the Central Section Div. IV playoffs and did their part with two home victories and advance to a semifinal match at No 2 Minarets.

The Hawks opened the playoffs with a three-set win over No. 14 Sierra Pacific-Hanford and then recorded an easy three-set victory over No. 6 Coalinga to set up the semifinal match.

“It’s definitely a success,” head coach Brandon St. Lucia said. “But we’re not done. Our goal is Valley. That’s what we’re out here to do. Two more wins to achieve that goal. A championship is what we want.”

Coyotes advance in D-III playoffs

With a dominant victory to begin the postseason, the Madera boys water polo team earned a trip to today’s Div. III semifinals at No. 3 Exeter.

The No. 6 Coyotes eliminated No. 11 Chowchilla with a 15-6 quarterfinal win at the McAlister Aquatic Complex.

It will be a rematch of last season’s quarterfinals between Madera and Exeter, which came away with the 14-10 road win.

Stallions win Rich Parris Invite

In his final home meet on Nov. 6, Eduardo Herrera won the Richard Parris/Saucony Twilight Invitational that was named after his former head coach who won a combined 12 Valley championships while at Madera and Madera South.

Veronica Ortega (10:55.7), Jonnie Montano (11:06.6) and Angelica Costilla (11:09.4) were the first three Stallion girl runners to finish out of 49.

The Coyote girls easily won the Sierra Pacific Run with the Bear 5K race on Nov. 6 in Hanford.

With a winning time of 17:59.8, Jasmine Gonzalez paced the Coyotes to a score of 15 while Coalinga (46) was a far second.
