California Highway Patrol Madera Area officers responded to a two-vehicle traffic crash, at the intersection of Road 16 and Avenue 14.
A 21-year-old man from Madera was driving a white 2002 Pontiac Firebird, traveling southbound on Road 16, approaching the intersection at Avenue 14 on Friday just before 6 a.m.
A 57-year-old man from Madera was driving a black 2019 Lincoln Navigator, westbound on Avenue 14, approaching the intersection at Road 16.
At this location, traffic on Avenue 14 has the right-of-way, and traffic on Road 16 is controlled by posted stop signs.
The driver of the Pontiac failed to yield the right-of-way, and entered the intersection, directly into the path of the Lincoln.
The front of the Lincoln collided with the left side of the Pontiac and caused both vehicles to come to rest in a cornfield on the southwest corner of the intersection.
The 21-year-old driver in the Pontiac sustained major injuries, and was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. The 57-year-old driver in the Lincoln did not sustain any injuries.
Both parties were wearing their seat belts. Alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected to be a factor at this time.
