The Madera Coyotes softball team seemed to be cruising along by taking a 6-0 lead into the sixth inning of its Div. II Central Section playoff game against Arroyo Grande.
Pitcher Nastasha Griffin carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning, but ran into a wall. The 13th-seeded Eagles broke the no-hitter with a single and then ripped a two-run home run. Arroyo added three more runs in the inning, two unearned, to cut the lead to 6-5.
However, pitcher Kaylynn Powell got out of the inning without allowing the tying run to score and the fourth-seeded Coyotes held on for a 6-5 victory in the first round of the Central Section Div. II softball playoffs Tuesday at Zimmerman Field in the Madera Coyotes Softball stadium.
