Car veers into hydrant

Madera Police Department officers responded to a traffic collision on the 1000 block of E. Cleveland Avenue due to a vehicle in the center median and collided with a fire hydrant.

Traffic on Cleveland Avenue was blocked in both directions for a time while the area was cleared.

According to MPD, the driver admitted on being on his cell phone when he went onto the center median and into the fire hydrant. He was evaluated for a DUI, but was not found to be under the influence. He was cited for driving violations.
