After an 11-1 mercy-rule victory in the first round over Granite Hills-Porterville that gave the Matilda Torres Toros softball team not only its first home playoff victory, but first playoff victory in its first playoff appearance in program history, the Toros did even better in the quarterfinal game on Tuesday.
The fifth-seeded Toros banged out 20 hits and put away the fourth-seeded Riverdale Cowgirls in five innings during a 17-0 victory.
The win sent the Toros into Thursday’s semifinal game at top seed Kern Valley, a three-plus hour bus trip south.
