Madera Sunrise Rotary held its fifth annual fly-in and breakfast at Madera Municipal Airport.
The event was held at Red Tail Aviation’s hangar, where airplanes could be seen up-close, and pilots and flying fans could eat pancakes, eggs and sausages while talking aviation and getting a look at activities out on the runway.
Outside the hangar a variety of planes was displayed, including the Vans RV aircraft used in a formation-flying demonstration, Bill Hoffrage’s Stearman biplane, and two planes owned by the Madera County Aircrafter’s Club, a group that promotes learning to fly in Madera with low-cost plane rentals and connections to flight instructors.
The display of Rotarian Don Warnock’s antique fire truck at the event has become a tradition, one of the things that returning families look forward to seeing again.
A formation-flying demonstration was added to the April 13 event this year, thanks to Tim Cone, organizer of the West Coast Formation Flying Clinic that takes place in Madera each year.
Other additions were representatives from the Madera County Sheriff’s Office and Make-It Fly-It projects for children that were provided by Rotarian Anne Charleston.
The event was free, with a suggested donation of $5 for a pancake breakfast. Kids 5 and under ate free.
