I agree with our founding fathers, who came up with the idea of the electoral college, but ever since the Trump vs. Clinton election — where it did not work out for the democrats — they have been fuming and want to change the way elections have worked for 235 years.
While I also agree with the popular vote, I understand that densely populated cities could also control our elections and the states would not be fairly represented.
Three hundred and 19 square miles could determine outcome of elections when our country is comprised of 3,797,000 square miles. There are 3,141 counties in the U.S. Trump won 3,084 of them. Clinton won 57. There are 62 counties in New York State, Trump won 46 and Clinton won 16.
Clinton won the popular vote by approximately 1.5 million. In the five counties that encompass NYC (Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Richmond and Queens), Clinton received well more than 2 million more votes. Therefore, these five counties, alone, more than accounted for winning the popular vote of the entire country.
Here in California, San Francisco, Los Angeles and the coastal region determines our state blue, but maybe that will change one day if people like Joe Biden continue to ruin our country.
