Commentary: Don’t listen to what they say; look at what they do

Madera County voters approved extending the 1/2 percent sales tax for roads, via the passage of Measure T. Sierra Citizens recently pointed out (in various forums) that half of the Local Roads fund is diverted to Regional Roads. Apparently in response to that discovery, FresnoLand reported on Oct. 14, 2024, that Supervisor Poythress said “…local jurisdictions would not take funds from the local streets and roads category to use on regional projects…. it’s absurd for anyone to say that local officials would do that.”

However, the transportation board, which includes Supervisors Poythress, David Rogers, and one other County Supervisor does exactly that — diverts funds from Local Roads, like the one in front of your property, to use on Regional Roads.

Supervisors Poythress and Rogers have authorized that very shift for many years.
