Man guilty of domestic violence

Daniel Jafain Harris, 40, will be sentenced Nov. 22 after a jury convicted him of felony domestic violence and violation of a restraining order.

On July 11, 2016, Harris had “punched his girlfriend in the face with a closed fist, splattering blood on the wall of their apartment,” according to Madera County District Attorney’s Office.

Following the trial, Madera Superior Court Judge Dale J. Blea found true a special allegation that, in addition to the domestic violence convictions, Harris also had two prior violent felony convictions within the meaning of the three strikes law. Both prior convictions were related to domestic violence and took place in the past three years.

“Harris faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in state prison,” said Madera County District Attorney David A. Linn. “I hope this conviction sends a message to anyone thinking of committing domestic violence in Madera County. Domestic violence is a serious felony.”

Harris remains in county jail awaiting sentencing.
