Head-on crash claims life

CHP Madera Officers responded to a crash involving two vehicles on State Route 41, north of Road 406, Sunday evening at about 7:30 p.m.

A 30-year-old woman from Oakhurst was driving a black Honda Accord, heading northbound on SR-41, approaching Road 406. A 63-year-old woman from Fresno was driving a white Ford Escape, southbound on SR-41, approaching Road 406.

As the two vehicles approached each other, the Honda veered into the southbound lane and collided head-on with the Ford. Both vehicles sustained major damage and came to rest blocking the roadway. Despite life-saving measures by good Samaritans and medical personnel, the right front passenger in the Ford (an 87-year-old woman from Fresno) was pronounced deceased at the scene. Both drivers were transported to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, with major injuries. All parties were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.
