The Madera County Food Bank has started up their Senior Nutrition and Produce Program (SNAPP) again. This program has been put on hold since 2019, but Ryan McWherter of the Food Bank wants to get the word out that the program is now back on.
SNAPP is for seniors 55 years or older. Every first and third Thursday of each month, from 7 to 9 a.m., the Food Bank truck and volunteers will be distributing food at Lions Town and Country Park, for only $4 to each senior who comes. “They need to bring only $4 and a smile,” one of the volunteers said. There is no government funding for this program. The supply of food is expected to provide food for 400-500 people.
The Madera Food Bank has promoted this distribution via Facebook, senior centers, Las Brisas, Yosemite Manor, 800 Yosemite, Cedar Creek, and laundromats.
