Veteran homelessness

Veterans’ Voices is directed toward veterans and their families who have given so much to ensure our freedom in this country. This is an area where you may share your experiences, or read of other veterans’ experiences. We thank you for your service, and hope that you know how much you are loved and appreciated.

I was driving to the local drug store yesterday and saw a man walking down the sidewalk.

He saw my Vietnam sticker on the back of my truck and stopped to talk to me. He mentioned he, too, was deployed to Vietnam. I asked him a few questions to verify that he was indeed there. He answered them correctly. We kind of hit it off, and I asked him if he would like to discuss our past over a cup of coffee. He said he would entertain the idea.

I met him this morning for coffee. I noticed that he had the same clothes on that he had on prior. So, after an hour, I asked him what part of town he lived in. He told me that he was homeless. After a few more minutes, he explained the reasons for his homelessness.
