The Madera American Little League 8-12-year-old All-Stars completed a dominant run through the District 10 tournament with a 6-2 victory over River Park Little League to win the title.
Madera American scored in every inning and held River Park to just two hits in the game.
In the three District 10 games, Madera American outscored its opponents 33-3, and limited them to just six hits.
Eli Vela picked up the win, tossing the first five innings, and allowing an unearned run on five hits. He struck out 14 batters and walked just two.
Amari Glynn tossed 2/3 of the sixth before David Olivas got the final out to clinch the title.
Glynn scored two runs from the lead-off spot. Rick Avila, Olivas, Vela, Omar Molina and Jeremiah Marmolejo each had hits in the game. Glynn, Avila and Molina hit doubles.
River Park opened the game with a run off Vela. River Park led off with a double, but a throwing error allowed a run to score two batters later. After a walk, Vela struck out the next two batters to end the inning.
Glynn led off the bottom of the inning with a walk. He stole second, but the next two batters were retired.
Andrew Andrade reached on an error that allowed Glynn to score the tying run, and get momentum back on Madera American’s side.
After Vela settled down, he struck out the side in the second, Madera American took the lead in the bottom of the inning with a two-out, nobody on rally.
Molina doubled to deep left to start the rally. He stole third, and then scored on another steal, taking advantage of River Park not paying attention to the runner to give Madera American the lead.
Michael Granado led off the third with a walk, but the next two batters struck out. Glynn doubled to deep center to put runners on second and third.
Granado and Glynn both score on steals at the plate to give Madera American a 4-1 lead.
Avila led off the fourth with a double. Two batters later, Olivas reached on an infield single. Vela singled to left to drive in Avila for a 5-1 lead.
With two outs in the bottom of the fifth, Marmolejo singled to left, and advanced to second on an error. He stole third and scored on a passed ball for a 6-1 lead.
After the first inning, Vela retired 12 of the next 15 batters, including 11 by strikeout to hand the ball over to the bullpen in the sixth.
Glynn walked the first batter he faced, but seemed to settle down with a pair of strikeouts.
He waked the next batter, and manager Steve Gallegos made the move to bring in Olivas.
Olivas allowed a single up the middle that scored a run.
However, he struck out the next batter to set off the celebration.
Madera American hosts the Section 7 tournament that begins today, Madera American earned a first-round bye, and won’t play until Thursday.
