Jim Glynn was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, and moved with his parents to Palo Alto, CA, in 1957. He attended Foothill College, where he served as Student Commissioner of Activities and, later, became the full-time assistant manager of the college bookstore. He completed his education in sociology at San Jose State University and UC Riverside. In 1966, he began teaching at Bakersfield College (BC), moved to Madera Community College in 1998. He retired in 2002. While at BC, he published multiple editions of “Introduction to Sociology” which was translated into several languages. In 1989, he co-founded the California Sociological Association, of which he also served as president and long-time executive director. His other textbooks include “Global Social Problems” and “California’s Social Problems.”
Jim began writing “Pulse of the Heartland” for the Madera Tribune in 1999. In 2007, he received the California Teachers’ Association Award for his column, “One Life, Guided by a Librarian.” Currently, he serves on the Board of Directors of the State Center Community College Foundation.”
