The Madera Unified School District Board of Trustees recognized Washington and Sierra Vista elementary schools for earning the Promising Practices Award from the California Collaborative for Educational Excellence (CCEE).
“This was not possible without high-quality teacher leadership and a crazy level of commitment from every classroom teacher,” Superintendent Todd Lile said during the meeting. “The hour-by-hour level of commitment is different. The use of collaborative time is different. The amount of artifacts, data, and conversations needed to pre-plan, respond, and predict challenges is unlike anything we’ve experienced before.”
The Promising Practices Award is given to schools that demonstrate a commitment to becoming a Model Professional Learning Community (PLC) at Work. To qualify, schools must show at least one year of student achievement data reflecting significant academic growth, implement PLC practices for one to two years, and submit a detailed explanation of their school culture, practices, and structure to the PLC Review Committee.
