The Matilda Torres Toros baseball team put any thoughts of playoff jitters to rest with an 11-run first inning to cruise to a 20-1 victory in the first round of the Div. VI Central Section playoffs.
The Toros capped off the shortened game with a nine-run third inning to record the first playoff win in the program’s history Wednesday afternoon at Eddie Chapa Field over the 12th seeded Avenal Buccaneers.
The fifth-seeded Toros banged out 17 hits, but also took advantage of six Avenal errors that led to 13 unearned runs for the win.
