Nishimoto Elementary has been named a Model Professional Learning Community (PLC) at Work School by Solution Tree, recognized for its sustained success in raising student achievement.

The honor, awarded to only 59 schools across California, out of more than 10,600 schools and 1,300 districts, is a major milestone for the Madera Unified School District.

Principal Erin Falke credited Madera Unified’s implementation of the PLC at Work process as a key component of the success seen in the last three years. A Professional Learning Community is a school culture in which educators focus on continuous, job-embedded learning to improve student outcomes. At Nishimoto, that means teachers collaborate by tracking student progress and adapting their teaching to meet students’ needs.
