The Madera Unified School District’s OPTIONS Program brings together MUSD, the Madera County Sheriff’s Office Jail Division, Madera Police Department, and the Madera County Probation Department to connect with students whose behaviors may place them at risk of entering the justice system.
This is a collaborative effort dedicated to helping guide at-risk youth toward a brighter future.
Through this program, students visit each participating agency to learn about the real-life consequences of poor choices, hear firsthand from a formerly justice-involved young adult about the impact of their decisions, and build positive relationships with law enforcement and community partners.
Each student also leaves with contact information for program staff, ensuring they have trusted resources and support moving forward.
“The OPTIONS Program is about giving students the guidance and support they need before poor choices become lifelong consequences,” said Lawrence Fernandez, Director of Safety and Security of MUSD. “By working together with our law enforcement and community partners, we’re helping young people see that they have positive paths forward and people who believe in their success. Thank you to all of our partners for their shared commitment to making a difference in the lives of our students.”
The MCSO was recognized by Madera Unified earlier this week at the Madera County Board of Supervisors meeting, and is proud to stand alongside community partners in making a positive difference in the lives of local youth.
