The Madera Community Hospital’s emergency department air handler was replaced, and resulted in the temporary closure of the department.

The MCH emergency department was closed from midnight Wednesday until 7:30 a.m. Thursday.

However, work was completed quickly and the emergency department reopened Thursday at 7:30 a.m. The project was completed without incident, according to Sherrie Bakke, Director of Business Development for MCH.

The closure accommodated the removal and replacement of the air handler unit. The first hours of the closure were focused on the care of existing emergency department patients.

The focus then turned to the air handler. The installation was accomplished while maintaining an active electronic control panel. The change out was expected to take two hours, followed by 12 hours of electrical, plumbing and control balancing.

The hospital’s Rapid Care walk-in clinic was open on Thursday to care for patients with non-emergent health concerns.
