High speed rail, food stamps issue for locals

The Madera Tribune received the following comments online about Tribune articles and local happenings.

Food stamp drug testing

Wisconsin is moving forward with a plan to begin drug testing able-bodied adults applying for food stamps. Local television station KFSN recently asked “Do you think the same should be done here (California)?”

“Janis Brown” wrote, “Only if they build several new medical insurance accepted rehabs in each county and offer them rehab.”

“Franco Gil” wrote, “If they do it in California, I’m sure 80 percent of people will flunk.”

Rants and Raves

Rant — The California High Speed Rail Authority has been noting its construction progress for the ongoing high speed rail project. A part of the tracks is set to run through Madera County. In response to a video CHSRA released, “Sarah Colomer” wrote. “What a rip-off. Our roads are falling apart, we need more lanes, and the so-called representatives choose this over-produced project. I am very disgusted. smdh.”

Rave — Yosemite National Park held an open commentary session for the public to detail why they felt Yosemite was important. “Joyce Van Curen Thomas” wrote, “There’s absolutely nothing prettier than Yosemite National Park in any season.”

Rant — The Madera County Board of Supervisors voted to formally censure Madera County District Attorney David Linn over allegations of workplace misconduct in late November. Linn has denied the claims. “Susan Earl” wrote, “Toss the bum out.”

Rave — A grade separation project, being constructed by the California High Speed Rail project along Avenue 12, is said to eliminate an existing at-grade freight crossing just about a mile from Madera Community College. “Ramon Lopez” wrote, “This crossing elimination is one of the byproduct benefits for Madera residents. Less accidents for Madera drivers.”
