Ghosts

I’m not much of a TV watcher. I do enjoy some of the old TV shows, and the older movies, but this newer stuff is not for me. I don’t like the violent shows, or the ones that use a lot of bad language.

What usually happens when I sit down to watch TV, is that I fall asleep. So, it is hard for me to get into any show and stick with it.

My husband David, on the other hand, could sit and watch hours and hours of TV without falling asleep. He first has to watch the news. News, news, news. That’s his gig. Then, he turns on to one of those cops shows, like NCIS or one of the many other CIS shows. He also likes the hospital shows, like House, or Gray’s Anatomy. There’s a bunch of them, too.

At the Simpson house, we don’t get any of the premium channels on our television. The TV we purchased several years ago came with a package of TV stations, and we just stay within those programs.

Once in a while, David and I will find a TV series and we will binge watch every episode until the end.

We did that with Mad Men, Doc Martin, The Andy Griffith Show, and many others.

David likes it when I watch TV with him, even if the show is something that he wouldn’t normally choose. There’s a better chance I will stay awake if it is a show I chose. However, he watches me like a hawk, and if he sees that I am sleeping, he will change the channel. Sometimes without warning. Sometimes he will say, “Are you sleeping?”

To which, I always lie and say, “No.” (He knows differently, though.)

Our latest trend is watching the TV show called Ghosts.

If you have not watched this TV show, it is very entertaining. It is a comedy, and so farfetched that it is quite humorous.

A young couple, Jay and Sam, moved into a big old house the wife inherited. She wants to make it a Bed & Breakfast. The husband is not crazy about the idea, but he goes along with her (because he loves her).

After taking a bad fall down the steps and winding up in the hospital, she returned to the house to recover and began to see the ghosts of people who had died in the house.

She is the only one of the “living” who can see these ghosts. The ghosts come from different eras of history, the oldest being a Viking named Thor, and the most recent death was a stockbroker named Trevor, who walks around wearing a shirt with a tie and coat, but no pants. In the basement of the house are about a dozen very dirty people, also ghosts, who had died of cholera.

The ghosts are glad to have someone living who can see and hear them. The wife, Sam, often serves as a referee among the ghosts, who sometimes quarrel and ask her to do things for them.

The husband cannot see or hear the ghosts, but he knows his wife does, and he is very patient with her as she has conversations with these people he trusts she really sees.

The episodes are both fun and interesting, as the viewer learns the stories about the death of the people who became ghosts.

One individual is a man in a scout uniform, named Pete, with an arrow sticking out of his neck. He had been teaching archery classes to a group of children, and one child shot her arrow, which pierced Pete’s neck and he died.

David and I were curious about how Trevor died without his pants, and we didn’t learn his story until the sixteenth episode. It was quite a story — not one you would expect.

This is not really a commercial for Ghosts, but if you decide to watch it, it is a guarantee to entertain. We get the show on a channel called Pluto, and there you can watch every episode from the beginning.

Enjoy your weekend. I hope you don’t encounter any real ghosts. If you do, I hope they are as interesting as the ones on this TV show.

Nancy

You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.
