Madera Community College unveiled new campus signage featuring its new logo to drivers down Avenue 12 last month.

“We became a college during the height of the pandemic, so we didn’t really get to celebrate properly. We want students and our community to feel welcome and proud. We invite the community to come visit us and check out the new look and feel. The campus has really come to life,” said Madera Community College President Ángel Reyna.

New programs launched

As part of its mission to help the Central Valley region thrive, Madera Community College is launching two new programs in high-demand job fields.

“The vision of Madera Community College is to build effective partnerships, strengthen communities and transform lives. These new programs will help build a pipeline of employees for local businesses and enable our students to earn good wages doing meaningful work,” said Reyna.

Industrial Maintenance Technology: The Industrial Technology program prepares students for high-demand jobs in the Central Valley. Students gain hands-on experience in welding, hydraulics, electricity, mechanical fundamentals, machine alignment, electronics, computerized equipment maintenance, programmable logic controllers, vibration analysis, thermal analysis applications, and basic rigging and forklift operation. The program prepares students for jobs such as field service technician, industrial maintenance technician, maintenance mechanic, or maintenance repair mechanic. Students can earn an associate degree or certificate.

Social Work and Human Services: The new Associate of Arts for Transfer prepares students to transfer to a four-year institution in Social Work, Human Services, and related majors. This is the first degree for transfer in this area of study in the State Center Community College District. The program of study includes legal and ethical issues, theories of practice and human behavior, history of social welfare, and current standards of practice in the field. Students will acquire critical thinking skills, case planning, crisis intervention, theory-based assessment, working knowledge of community resources, and experience in a human service agency.

Madera Community College is now enrolling students for the Fall 2021 semester. Students are encouraged to enroll early to secure classes in high demand areas. The college features 100 program options, online and in-person classes, financial aid to cover fees, textbooks, transportation, utilities and more, free laptop and Wi-Fi available for checkout and the pre-school is accepting application.
