Letters: Figure out how to measure it

The June 13 edition of The Madera Tribune had an article from its own Nancy Simpson. Nancy talked about prices now, and from years past.

What she said was true. Some of the prices she recalled were lower than I remembered (I thought I was older). Yes, prices were lower, but so were the wages. Like $1.25 an hour!

Things were relative until the government started increasing the minimum wage. This is when things started coming apart.

The egg price thing was a different issue. Blamed on Trump and touted by the Left — it was actually a fumble by the Biden Administration on the Bird Flu. Bird flu was treatable, but they chose not to. Eggs today at $1.39 with an APP at Savemart. That’s for 18! Whose fault is that?

Not mentioned by Nancy was the shrinkflation. Packaging is smaller. There are huge dividers inside (Valentine candy, Girl Scout cookies). Watered down stuff.

Remember when Heinz Ketchup advertised Slow Good? Now it, and French’s Mustard, dribble water, first.

We used to get a true measure; 48 fluid oz. of ice cream. No — most are short, not filled. Weights and Measures said they were trying to figure out how to measure it. Cited some B/S about temperature and stuff. Fluid oz. is a specific measurement.

I figured a fun way to do it: took an empty carton, what do I have to measure into it? Beer! 12 oz. can, 4×12 is?

Thank you, beery much.

Measured twice, just to be sure.
