Beans all year ‘round

Beans all year ‘round.
A hearty bean stew in a black pot, perfect for year-round meals. Fresh ingredients and vibrant colors highlight the delicious dish.

Beans don’t really have a season, except maybe for the colder months, when many people turn to hearty meals. I grew up in an area where beans, mostly pinto, were eaten all year long.

I have cooked many different types of beans, and I do have my favorites. My grandmother used to grow cranberry beans in her garden, and then dry them in the pods. I helped her prepare them for storage, and I always looked forward to the days when she used them as an important ingredient in her minestrone soup.

The ones I use the most are pinto beans, and that probably goes back to my other grandmother, who almost always had a pot of beans on the stove and some cooked linguica. I would go there after school when my mom was working, and looked forward to a great meal.
