Black Saints United and the City of Madera held its annual Black History Month Celebration at the Pan Am Center over the weekend.
More than 100 people showed up to the annual event. This year, the members of the 6888 Central Postal Directory Battalion, made famous by the Netflix movie “The Six Triple Eight,” were honored.
“We are united by love and unshakable to justice to celebrate Black History Month,” said California Assemblywoman Esmeralda Soria. “We are also here to honor the extraordinary legacy of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion. I did not know much about what this extraordinary history that these women were about. That’s why it’s important that we celebrate Black History this month. Black history is American history.”
