Philip James Oberti, a lifelong son of Madera and a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, rancher, businessman, and community leader, passed away peacefully on Aug. 19, 2026, at the age of 83.
Philip was born on April 25, 1943, in Madera, California, to Frank and Marcella Oberti. He graduated from Madera High School before attending Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where he earned his degree in Business Development in 1966 with a focus on Ranching and Real Estate.
In 1965, Philip married the love of his life, Klina Lyon. Their marriage began a beautiful partnership that spanned more than six decades and became the foundation of their family and life together. After graduating from Cal Poly, Philip and Klina returned to Madera, where he began working on the ranches and eventually running the family business. His deep connection to the land and the community he called home remained an important part of his life.
Philip later expanded his career into real estate investment throughout the San Joaquin Valley.
He eventually extended his portfolio to San Francisco, a city that held a special place in his heart and in the lives of his family. His business pursuits reflected his vision, determination, and appreciation for the growth and development of the communities around him.
Family was at the heart of Philip’s life. He and Klina were blessed with three children: Alison, born in 1967; Laurel, born in 1969; and Greg, born in 1971. Philip took great pride in his family and cherished each generation that followed.
Philip and Klina also shared a love of entertaining and creating memories with family and friends. Their home was often filled with laughter and wonderful company. They enjoyed good wine and dining, traveling the world, and making memories along the way. Some of their happiest times were spent at Bass Lake and in San Francisco, where they cheered for the 49ers at Candlestick Park. These memories will live on in the hearts of those who shared them.
Beyond his professional life, Philip was deeply committed to the town of Madera. He generously gave his time and talents to the community, serving on the Madera City Planning Commission and becoming actively involved with the Downtown Association. He believed in preserving Madera’s heritage while helping shape its future.
Philip’s contributions and lifelong connection to Madera were recognized throughout the years.
In 1991, he was named an Honored Alumni at Cal Poly. In 2024, Philip and Klina were crowned King and Queen of Madera, a fitting tribute to a couple whose lives had become deeply woven into the fabric of their hometown. The following year, they received the Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of their many years of service, leadership, and dedication to the Madera community.
Philip will be remembered for his devotion to Klina, his love of family, his entrepreneurial spirit, his commitment to Madera, and the lasting impact he made on the community he loved. His legacy was built not only through his work and accomplishments, but also through the relationships he treasured, the memories he created, and the generations he helped nurture.
Philip is survived by his beloved wife, Klina Oberti; his daughters, Alison Oberti and Laurel Orradre; and his grandchildren, Mason Orradre and his wife, Rachel; Anthony Aurignac; Thomas Orradre and his wife, Bailee; and Nicholas Aurignac and his wife, Alexis. He is also survived by his three great-grandchildren, Miller, Grady, and Jett Orradre, and his sister, Carla Alessini. He is preceded by his son Greg Oberti.
Philip’s life was one of love, laughter, family, service, and devotion to his hometown. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. A service will be held in remembrance of Philip Oberti at Jay Chapel on Friday, August 28, at 1 p.m.
