Authorities arrested alleged home invasion robber Ray Coleman, 23, during a vehicle stop in North Fork shortly after midnight today. A 77-year-old victim of last weekend’s crime remains in critical condition at a Fresno hospital.

Madera County sheriff’s deputies arrested a second suspect, 18-year-old Alvin McDonald III, late Monday morning. Authorities believe the pair of North Fork residents forced their way into a home near Bass Lake and ransacked the home, stealing at least a handgun.

One of the suspects reportedly seized the gun from the elderly woman and beat her with it in the presence of her adult son, who called 911. Both suspects weigh 160 lb.

According to the county jail, the suspects were arrested on charges of attempted murder, strong-arm robbery, burglary, assault with a deadly weapon (firearm), and using a firearm during the commission of a felony. Coleman has also been charged with criminal conspiracy and parole violation, and McDonald with elder abuse and violating probation.

Deputies found Coleman as the occupant of a vehicle in the area of Old Central Camp and Road 222 and arrested him without incident, said sheriff’s Cmdr Bill Ward.
