The Rev. Matthew Spencer, vice provincial and director of communications for the Oblates of St. Joseph in the United States, will be the featured speaker at a prayer breakfast for the community Jan. 20 at Holy Spouses Hall, across 4th Street from St. Joachin Church, at 310 N. I St.

Spencer entered the seminary of the Oblates of St. Joseph in 2003. He completed a master of divinity and a master of arts in spiritual theology in 2009, and was ordained to the priesthood later that year.

He lives and works out of Mount St. Joseph in Loomis, between Roseville and Auburn, and is the host of the daily radio program, St. Joseph’s Workshop, on the Immaculate Heart Media network.

Catholic Daughters of the Americas has been active at St. Joachim’s church for 12 years. The purposes of the organization are to participate in the religious, charitable and educational apostolates of the Catholic Church. The charities that the local court supports are Holy Family Table, Doors of Hope, Esperansa de Vida and the Oblates of St. Joseph seminarians.

The theme of the prayer breakfast will be “Come to Me all you who are weary,” Matt 11:28-30.

Spencer will celebrate Mass at St. Joachim’s church at 8:00 a.m. Doors open at the Hall at 8:30am. Breakfast will be served from 9 to 9:30am. (Ham, Hash browns, scrambled eggs, muffins and roll and lots of coffee).

Tickets are $15 per person or a table of 8 for $100. For tickets contact Rosie, 674-9309 or Helen, 673-4702. Tickets are also available at St. Marello Bookstore on the St. Joachim campus. No tickets will be sold at the door.
