Suspects detained on carjacking suspicion

Madera County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a home in the 31000 block of Wyle Ranch Road in North Fork on Nov. 26 for a report of an assault with a firearm. During the investigation, it was determined that Kenneth Anthony Couch 37, and Robert James Puls, 34, attempted to steal a vehicle from the victim at gunpoint.

A follow-up investigation was conducted by Mountain Division patrol deputies which lead to the identification of a home in the 52000 block of Road 426 in Oakhurst.

On Dec. 11, deputies served a search warrant that resulted in the arrest of Puls and Couch and recovery of the weapons believed to have been used during the incident. Deputies seized methamphetamine, scales and packaging material from the house. Road 426 was closed for approximately 15 minutes during the search.

Puls and Couch were taken to the Madera County Department of Corrections, where they were booked for vehicle theft, robbery, assault with a stun gun and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Anyone with information can call the Sheriff’s Office, 675-7770, or Crime Stoppers, 498-7867. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
