Wrestlers advance to Masters

The Madera Coyotes, Madera South Stallions and Liberty Hawks wrestling teams competed in the Division tournaments with a berth at the Central Section (Master’s) championship this weekend at Buchanan High School in Clovis.

The Coyotes had nine wrestlers from the Div. II championship tournament in Bakersfield to advance to the Master’s. Heavyweight Vicente Rodriguez captured the individual championship. The team placed fourth, just four points behind third place Monache-Porterville.

In the Div. III Tournament in Morro Bay, the Madera South Stallions had seven wrestlers compete and all seven earned a berth to the Master’s Tournament. Led by Div. III individual champion Malaky Beas at 138 pounds, the Stallions placed fifth as a team.
