The Madera County Treasurer-Tax Collector, Tracy Kennedy, said, “Our office has finalized the Defaulted Property Tax Sale held online from May 11-May 14, 2024, wherein we sold nine parcels for delinquent property taxes. We collected more than $650,000, which includes taxes and fees from the parcels sold.”
The Defaulted Property Tax Sale commences after the property taxes have been delinquent for more than five years. Throughout the preparation for the annual tax sale, the taxpayer can pay the outstanding taxes in full to prevent the sale of their property. This opportunity terminates at the close of business on the last business day prior to the date of the sale.
“My tax sale division is very proactive in contacting taxpayers that are delinquent to reduce the amount of properties sold,” stated Kennedy. “Property tax collections produce a positive impact on our community as the amount collected is distributed for a myriad of essential services such as libraries, animal control, district attorney services, as well as for the schools, special districts, and cities. This process then puts the parcels that sell back onto the tax roll as valid taxpaying properties that benefit all of Madera County.”
