The Matilda Torres Toros girls basketball team did what it needed to do in their Madera South Shootout-opening game against the Firebaugh Eagles — win.
The Toros didn’t let the Eagles reach double-digits in points until the third quarter in a 43-27 victory Tuesday. The win came less than 24 hours after a season-opening 40-38 loss to the Selma Bears.
Unfortunately for the Toros, their next two games in the Shootout will be against Div. I’s Central Grizzlies and crosstown rivals Madera.
