Matilda Torres’ Arturo Corona Jr. drives around a Sanger West defender to score two of his game-high 19 points. He scored 14 of those in a second half comeback.
On a night where they honored 10 seniors, the Matilda Torres Toros boys basketball team didn’t want to send their seniors out with a loss and came back for a 47-43 victory over the Sanger West Hornets on Tuesday.
The Toros found themselves on a the wrong end of a low scoring first half. After going into the half to reset, the Toros outscored the Hornets 36-19 in the second half for the Senior Night victory. The Toros also forced 17 second half turnovers while only committing four.
However, it was a different story in the first half. Sanger West jumped out a 24-11 lead after a 17-8 second quarter. The Toros shot just 4-of-28 (14 percent) from the field and were just 3-of-10 from the free throw line.
