After hosting its first football game and June’s graduation from all three high schools, Matilda Torres High School officially opened Toro Stadium last week during a ceremony.

Torres High School invited dignitaries to witness the official ribbon cutting of the stadium, and later played under the Friday Night Lights that was broadcast on TV-59.

“I never pictured this stadium,” said Matilda Torres’ widower, George, during Friday’s ceremony. “The naming of the school was so special because there was so much support from everybody. It was so special to be here to watch it to grow. Now, we have this stadium that is well-fitting for this community. Matilda is looking down at this. It’s something special for her to watch over the kids and know the kids will be well educated at this school. This is appropriate for her. It’s a beautiful stadium.”
