Torres boys get win over Madera

Matilda Torres’ Arturo Corona goes in for a layup to score two of his team-high 15 points in Tuesday’s victory over the Coyotes.

The Matilda Torres Toros boys basketball team scored the first seven points of the game and the Madera Coyotes were in catch-up mode the rest of the game.

Madera cut the lead down to one in the third and fourth quarters, but the Toros made clutch shots to take back the momentum for a 46-41 victory Tuesday in Joe Flores Gym.

“Hat’s off to Coach Lozano (Madera head coach David Lozano),” Torres head coach Charles Rigby said. “This is Madera. You want to beat Madera. That’s what we were set out to do. It’s been four years in the making. I’m proud for these seniors. It’s a class I’m proud of. I’ve had some of them for less than 24 hours because of football. I couldn’t keep them off the court. They wanted to go to practice and play this game.”
