Toros win biggest match

Torres setter Tarin Anderson uses the bump set to start the Toros’ offense in Tuesday’s five-set victory over Roosevelt to claim a share of first place in the North Yosemite League.

For the first time in the program’s history, the Matilda Torres Toros girls volleyball team had a chance to play for a league title — and they lived up to expectations.

With a playoff-atmosphere crowd, the Toros exacted a measure of revenge Tuesday night against North Yosemite League undefeated Roosevelt. The Toros lost to Roosevelt in five sets, with a 15-13 loss in the fifth set earlier this season.

However, the Toros have rolled since then and went into Tuesday’s match with a 5-1 record. If the Toros came away with the win, and held serve for the remainder of the NYL schedule, they could tie with Roosevelt for the league championship, a first for the Toros volleyball team.
