Toros win big in the rain over Hawks
FRESNO — The Matilda Torres Toros girls soccer team knew they had a tough task with the Liberty Hawks in the North Yosemite League-Northwest Sequoia Conference Showdown in McLane Stadium on Saturday.
However, after the rains started to come down, the Toros scored three goals in the final eight minutes and cruised to a 6-0 victory over the Hawks.
“The difference was the styles,” Toros head coach Marco Gomez said. “Our style is more of a direct playing team. With the rain, I know it affected them. We’re more of a passing team. We were able to control the ball and move the ball on the ground. It was tough to play their style with the weather.”
