SANTA YNEZ — After waiting for more than four hours after a four hour bus ride, the Matilda Torres Toros ran out of steam in a 49-42 Div. V Central Section semifinal loss to the Santa Ynez Pirates.
The third-seeded Toros were expecting to make a stop on the way to Santa Ynez to break up the four-hour trip. However, problems with the bus forced the Toros to forgo the stop and head straight to Santa Ynez on Thursday.
Once at the school, the Toros were forced to sit outside the gymnasium for an hour while Santa Ynez played around in their gym. After an hour, the team was given access to the school’s cafeteria. However, after it became too hot and the lack of cell service frustrated the players, many of them ventured back outside.
