Toros thrive in pressure for win

Toros boys soccer players surround Jese Gonzalez, right, after he scored the eventual game-winning goal in Saturday’s Div. V Central Section championship victory over Riverdale.

With the success of the Matilda Torres Toros girls soccer team the night before, the top-seeded Toros’ boys soccer team had the pressure on them, and they came through with a 1-0 victory over No. 3 Riverdale to claim the program’s first Central Section Championship.

With the girls win the night before, Torres swept the Div. V Central Section soccer championships.

“A lot of people were saying since the girls won, we felt the pressure to win, too,” head coach Jose Flores said. “It’s an accomplishment. When the game started, we knew this team knew how to play and we had to play our best.”
