Torres libero Bryance Gonzalez makes a dig to start the offense during Tuesday’s match with Hoover. Gonzalez helped the Toros to take a set off the league-leaders in a four-set loss.

The Matilda Torres Toros girls volleyball team hasn’t had the success they were looking for this season, but they are still battling tough late in the season and the Hoover Patriots saw that, first hand.

The Toros, who have two wins in the North Yosemite League, faced NYL-undefeated Hoover and took a set off the Patriots. In fact, the Patriots only outscored Torres by 13 points in the four sets Tuesday at Torres.

“They don’t give up,” head coach Adam Horner said. “They played well and started to find their groove. I know it’s late, but it’s good to see them play well against a team like that. We took that set and almost took another two sets. It was an overall good performance.”
