Toros stunned in first playoff match

Jorge Orozco/The Madera Tribune

Matilda Torres’ senior Sarah Guillen rises up for a kill during Tuesday’s playoff loss to Highland. It was the first playoff appearance for the Toros’ girls volleyball program.

The Matilda Torres Toros girls volleyball team looked like it was going to cruise to pick up the program’s first Central Section playoff victory in its first playoff appearance.

However, experience showed, and the lack of experience in the playoffs may have played a factor for the Toros.

After winning the first two sets by a combined 50-26 score, the sixth-seeded Toros couldn’t come away with the match win with the 11th-seeded Highland Scots, who won the final three sets to advance in the Div. V Central Section playoffs.
