Matilda Torres’ J’Lynn Mitchell throws up a shot during Tuesday’s loss to the Sanger Apaches. Mitchell scored more than half of the Toros’ points with 20 to go with 10 rebounds.

SANGER — Not only did the Matilda Torres Toros girls basketball team have to battle the Sanger Apaches, but they had to battle the flu bug in a 40-39 loss in Sanger.

The bug hurt the Toros’ depth, and also shelved starter Neveah Chavez for most of the game. Despite that, the Toros had trouble holding onto the ball and the Apaches made enough shots to pick up the win.

Sanger hit six 3-pointers despite shooting 2-of-13 from the free throw line, including going 1-for-6 in the final minute.
