Matilda Torres’ Mylah Avila throws a pitch during Wednesday’s loss to Sierra. Although she suffered the loss, she tossed four solid innings to keep the Toros in the game.

The Matilda Torres Toros softball team has improvement from where they ended last season, and it showed in a tough 7-5 loss to the Sierra Chieftains last week in the Toros’ home opener.

The Toros quickly fell behind, 3-0, but then battled back to take the lead before allowing four runs in the fifth that determined the final result Wednesday.

Mylah Avila came in relief of Olivea Luna in the first inning and was solid through five, but suffered four earned runs in the fifth inning.
