Toros hold off scrappy Stallions for win

Matilda Torres’ Jose Soriano rises up for a jumper over the outstretched hand of Madera South’s Alejandro Geronimo during Thursday’s battle. Soriano led the Toros with 14 points in the win over the Stallions.

Sparked by the emotions of senior night, the Madera South Stallions gave the Matilda Torres Toros all they could handle in the North Yosemite League finale Thursday at Madera South.

The Toros could have already been looking towards a home playoff game this week when facing the Stallions. Madera South is rebuilding and did not go to playoffs, but that didn’t mean they were just going to lay down for the Toros.

The Stallions led at the end of the first, but Torres took a six-point lead into the half. They gradually stretched the lead to a 61-50 victory.
